4 Non-Diet & Fitness Tricks for Losing Weight

4 Non-Diet & Fitness Tricks for Losing Weight

It’s true that weight loss comes from eating better, watching your diet and exercising regularly.  But that is only the physical components.

And that is only a small part of the puzzle.

The other components are mental and mind related, and you need to train your brain and work your mind as much during this process as you do your physical body.

If you are having a hard time losing weight, instead of beating yourself up over the number on the scale and starving yourself for the third day in a row, try these new tactics:

Reframe your Goal

Instead of placing emphasis on ensuring you lose a certain number of ponds, or reach a certain goal weight, instead focus on just becoming healthier.  Having a weight goal where you measure your success via what the scale says can be very disheartening: you gain muscle which weighs more, you use different scales, which can be inconsistent, or you just have natural fluctuations in your body’s water content which also alters the result.  Regardless, the numbers on the scale don’t tell the whole story and you can do yourself a favor by not worrying about them as much and making your goal something else.

Channel the mind

All that negative self-talk you exhibit, where you look in the mirror and call yourself fat, or where you shame yourself lying in bed because of how much you ate, is not doing you any favours in your weight loss journey.  When we talk negative, we believe negative, and our mind hears negative.  Instead, think positive.  Think positive about the changes you are making and the efforts you are putting in to be better.  Think positive about the progress you are making and that doing this today and eating better today, is one thing more than you were doing yesterday, and if you keep going like this, you have no option but to improve!

Get rid of bad energy

We all have those friends who we hang out with who always seem to give off bad energy.  Whether it’s because they are always complaining, because they are making little jabs at your weight and your size, or because they are always seeming to belittle your success, remove them from your life.  Don’t let them continue to push you down or harbor your success and self-confidence.  Be stronger than that and take a stance to stand up for yourself and your own self worth.

Start by loving yourself

If you think of any other changes you make in your life, like a new job, or a new car, you make the change because you love the outcome, and that love is a motivator.  Do the same with your body and weight: practice loving yourself and offering compassion and empathy towards yourself so that you love the outcome of all your hard work.  Losing weight because you hate yourself, or because you think you will gain the love and acceptance of someone else as a result is not the answer.  Love yourself for who you are on the inside and for the work you are doing to be your best on the outside.  And pretty soon others will love you for that too!
