How Chia Seeds Will Help You Lose Weight

What are chia seeds?

They are tiny seeds from a plant called Salvia Hispanica (or the chia plant), which is loosely related to mint plants. Chia seeds are native to South America, but have become popular in North America and other countries over the past years. This is in large part because of their health and weight loss benefits.

Don’t let their image deceive you, these tiny, flat and oval-shaped seed are jam packed with nutrients that are able to help our bodies be healthier, and to help with weight loss.

What are the benefits of chia seeds?

So what are these amazing weight loss benefits that come with consuming chia seeds? The weight loss benefits go hand and hand with their normal health benefits. To discuss one, we must discuss the other – so let’s get started!

First and foremost, a one-ounce serving of chia seeds contains 11 grams of fiber! The majority of those fibers are insoluble, which is said to help reduce any risks of diabetes. These soluble could also lead to a healthier colon. Since chia seeds do absorb water, they can expand in your stomach and help keep you full longer – thus consuming less calories.

Next, they supply four grams of protein so if you’re vegetarian or vegan, try adding these into your diet to help get your protein intake! Having a high protein intake can help reduce appetite and thoughts of snacking.

Chia seeds are filled with minerals, but do offer some sources of vitamins. They’ve got a high Manganese percentage (30%), which is a good thing because it helps with growth, development, and is a pivotal thing to our metabolism. They also have Phosphorus in them which helps with bone health, and Copper for heart health. Chia seeds are also a good source of Calcium, which is essentially important for our entire bodies.

Chia seeds have been known to help control blood sugar, lower blood pressure, and can help prevent heart disease. It literally is one of the greatest foods to ever become a trend. But now, the question is, how do we consume it? A big thing to remember when eating chia seeds is not to consume them dry and then chug water. If anything, let them soak in water first, and then consume them.

There are many recipes that could have chia seeds added to them, such as muffins, smoothies, puddings, and even sprinkled into salads.
